Meet Your CoachOwner, Norman GrahamMy name is Norman, and I am the owner and founder of Graham Fitness. Let me be the first to welcome you to my site! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself a little. Let’s start at the beginning…
Throughout middle and high school, I struggled with body image and insecurity. I was pretty skinny and always felt like I was the smallest guy in the group. I know we all share differences of self image and insecurities. Some of us are too skinny, and some of us aren’t skinny enough. Wherever you are on the scale (light or heavy) we can both agree that we shared, at one time, a level of discomfort in ourselves that made us want to change… for the better. This is how I can relate to each and every one of my clients. Let’s get back to the story… so I always felt like I was the smallest guy in the group. This started my quest for knowledge in nutrition and working out. After seeing my own results a new me was born. I was living the same life but with a different set of eyes. I was definitely hooked. Feeling this way- feeling comfortable within myself- was actually an amazing feeling. I was hooked when I realized how I felt and I knew I wanted to share that feeling with others. So way back in high school I was the personal trainer to all my friends. Even now when I see a childhood friend we always seem to bring up the fact that I was the one who got them into working out. So then we fast forward a few years and an opportunity came up for me to actually become a personal trainer. I was in Georgia for college and was offered to work at a local YMCA. I took the opportunity and I became the best at what I did. You guessed it… I was the best towel boy in the whole place! Nobody cleaned a bathroom quite like I did and nobody was up on the trash as consistent as me. I didn’t mind watching the trainers train while I did the “not so pretty” jobs around the gym. I knew one day I would get my shot to work with a client. A couple weeks in, and the YMCA is sparkling like a new engagement ring. This was also when a gym member asked about me to the front desk. This member was also in the same college as I was and she was there for soccer. She and I would workout around the same time and she apparently knew I also worked there. Since my training style was different (even back then) she assumed I was a personal trainer and inquired about buying sessions with me. The manager at the time told me about it and I jumped at the opportunity to work with her. A couple years passed and I found my way back to New Jersey (a place I call home). I was going to inquire about working at another local YMCA, but there was a Spa Lady gym not far from where I lived. I walked in and asked if they were looking for a trainer. They interviewed me on the spot by making me workout with a woman who just so happened to be a fresh signup at the gym. They asked her if she wouldn’t mind trying a session with me for free and giving them her feedback after our session was finished. To make an even longer story shorter she ended up signing up with me on the spot and I was hired. This is VERY important to share because this was a woman’s only gym. This is where I specialized in my target market which is women in their 40’s and older who have at least 20lbs to lose. I will work with clients outside of this criteria but honestly this is my specialty. Women in their 40’s are fast approaching a hormonal reset that will make them almost strangers to their body. This is also when you realize things you did in the past just aren’t working the same anymore. This is where I come in. But let’s get back to the story… again. So the client I worked out with signed up right after our session. I stayed at this gym for a few years until I opened Graham Fitness on a hot and sunny summer day July 15, 2006. And just like that the rest is history. Since 2006, I have made friendships and friendships were made in this studio that are still thriving today. There truly is a “personal” part to Personal Training and who you decide to work with matters. If you look at my picture to the left I am just a regular guy. No crazy professional head or muscle shot, and no crazy lifting photo. This picture was taken (by my wife) when I just picked up (literally) our 4th annual real Christmas Tree. I’m a husband to a fabulous wife (known her since 7th grade), I’m a Dad of two outstanding boys and we have a dog named Creed. I’m just a regular guy who understands what uncomfortable felt like. I also know what comfortable feels like and that’s the journey I want to be your partner on. If you do the math, I’ve been a trainer over 20 years. I have learned what works and what doesn’t. There is a lot of “fluff” and “fad” programs out there. They are targeted to interest you because they preach faster and easier. I’m here to tell you they just don’t work. There is a saying that says you always find what you are looking for in the last place you look. I hope you are someone who knows they can be better. I hope you are someone who realizes they need to change. I hope you are someone who knows you don’t just live for yourself. I hope you are someone who will give me the opportunity to EARN your TRUST as your partner in this journey as you chase a better version of YOU. I’ll see you on the other side. |
THE 3 THINGS YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
1. Goal Specific Training Goal specific or “Custom” resistance training provides your body what it needs to build and maintain a healthy physique. Keeping it custom ensures that it’s designed for your particular body, limitations and goals. Not all plans are created equal like what works for your friends won’t necessarily work well for you. Also you need to change your training program weekly- your body responds the most when it’s shocked.

2. Goal Specific Meal Plan Eating healthy is great but doesn’t mean you will achieve your goals. There are many people (you may be one of them) that eat organic vegetarian and they still need to lose weight. Eating for your goals (goal specific meal plan) is going to promote the change you want in the fastest time possible and after you are successful in your transformation we show you how to transition to a more realistic and long term healthy eating approach for maintenance.

3. Goal Specific Cardio Plan Just jumping on cardio for 30 minutes a few times a week wouldn’t be enough to get you to where you want to be. First you need to look at your current state and create a cardio plan based around your limitations and restrictions. My in person clients never have to worry about their cardio. I have a designed the cardio equipment choices with this in mind. For my online training clients we use creativity to get things accomplished.
